Dan will paint a favorite place for you or as a gift for someone else. Often these places that hold special meaning(s) or memories for a person. Please keep in mind that Dan's work is generally with a night or a twilight lighting theme. His color palette is on the bold side. Below you will find the commission process of one commission for a client.
First, Dan often uses photography to find a good composition for the work. In this case, the client was not sure what they specifically wanted. Dan visited the locations several times to take many photos and sketches.
Next, he will provide sketches and/or photos to the client. He will work with them to come to a great final image. Once that concept is agreed upon he will move to color pallet.
Often Dan will use computer aided design programs to better visualize the final concept. Within these images we will narrow the focus and final colors for the painting.
The process take a long time because He paints in oils, which take days to dry between layers. The client will have the opportunity to see the image in progress and request changes (if desired). When it is complete the painting will be covered with a protective varnish.
